Charcos™: Coconut Shell Charcoal

 

The word Charcos™ is an acronym of char (means to convert to charcoal by heat) and cos (for coconut shell). Charcos™ is coconut shell charcoal produced from Cocos-Nucifera tree, which is plentiful throughout thousands of Indonesian islands.

For centuries, people in Indonesia have recognized the use of coconut shells not only as a natural raw material to produce handicrafts, but also as an alternative and / or supplement to traditional lump charcoal, to improve and prolong the heat produced for cooking.

 

No single tree is cut to produce Charcos™, charcoal of the future. In fact, extensive cultivation of coco-nucifera trees may become necessary in several areas of Indonesia particularly, if the usage of coconut shell continue to rise. This in turn, helps the preservation of rainforest and promotes green living, making Charcos™ the greener way to barbecue.
